MOLAVE (Vitex parviflora Juss.)

Good morning everyone. Another tree with medicinal value found in the Philippines. I’m sure if many have this plant you can use it to cure some ailments. There are a total of 96 Philippine medicinal trees under 83 genera and 38 families. I want to share the most seen trees here.

Molave is a medium- to large-sized tree attaining a diameter of 100-150 cm and a height of 25-30 m. Bole is irregular, short and fluted. Buttress is thick, low to medium of moderately large. Its crown is spreading. Leaves opposite, whorled and deciduous. The flowers are blue, numerous, 6-8 mm long, hairy outside the cordial, and borne in terminal, particulate, and ample inflorescences up to 20 cm in length.

Medicinal Value:

■ Infusion or decoction of the wood is considered a good remedy for poison, as a dose of it will produce vomiting.

■ The bark is now use in decoction for diarrhea.
